While in Brussels for work, I had the chance to take a few hours for myself and used that time to hop a train to Amsterdam. First of all, it’s a super easy and very comfortable way to travel. Secondly, from Brussels, it takes under two hours, so why not.
I had heard so many things for so long about how Amsterdam is a beautiful city and it completely lived up to the claim. I walked out of Amsterdam Central with nothing but my camera bag, having left my luggage in Brussels, and zig-zagged the canals for about six hours. So many amazing sights, and such character you immediately fall in love. Put the cliches and stereotypes aside – everything they say is true (for those have never been) – but the lesser emphasized reality is canals are must see and don’t forget about walking inland to see the inner-neighborhoods that I imagine often go unexplored.
On the way back from AMS, I spent a night in Brussels, and after a week there I had a chance to grab a few shots. Brussels has the look and feel of a work city, but there is plenty of charming charming character in many pockets of the city. It’s completely walkable and worth a stop as a pass-through.
